He never understood why being a bastard was considered such a terrible thing since it was not the sins of the child but of the parents. "I am not appalled that you are a bastard, I am sorry to hear that such a man took advandage of your mother." He said simply thinking that it was sad. His own parents had not loved each other but they had tried their best with him and his four siblings. For the most part, both of his younger sisters had turned out well enough, although he hoped that they would be married off soon enough as for his younger brother... well, he tended to be a bit like Tavis when it came to being in the Scottish court. There had been a few things when he had to duel a man after sleeping with his wife.
"If you are not afraid of the scar then you must be afraid of me then? You are shaking like a leaf..." He pointed out wondering if he would have to forgo the consummation for the night but then, the night was young and he could talk to her. There was no reason to rush such a thing after all.
He started talking about his sisters as well as his brother as he told of some of his cousins, thinking that if he told her of what he loved about his home that it would ease the tension in the room. "Did you atleast have a happy childhood? Some children are mistreated for the reason that they are a bastard..." Tomas had poured more of the wine into his own cup as well as refilling her own. He was enjoying the conversation before asking. "I was also informed of this little rivalry between you and my new sister in law... do explain that, my sweet Alice." He reached out to curl one of his fingers in her hair, thinking that it was a lovely shade in the light of the flames.
---
"I am twenty." She said quietly as she looked away knowing that she was considered an old maid to most of the men of the court as she bit her lip and sipped at the wine, not that she enjoyed the taste but it was better than ale. "Does this displease you, my lord? How old are you?" Joanne asked him as she looked up. As for promising that she would leave any children behind, she shook her head. "I can not promise that if you were to strike me that I would leave any children behind... I would never abandon my child..." She said in a low voice as she thought of her mother's death.
Frowning, she swirled the wine and spoke. "I will try not to fight with Lady Alice if she will not start the arguments." Of course, it was usually Joanne but she was far too stubborn to admit to anything. "You would really allow me to cut off your..." She paused to cough. "manpart if you struck me... I suppose then I can trust you not to do so."

"I...had a happy enough childhood I suppose...Besides Diana, The Duke of Bedford's daughter, I had no playmates. My brothers were all older than myself, and my eldest brother was an Earl by the time I came of an age to understand. I stayed in the country till I was fifteen, I grew up with only my mother and nurse for company...." she trailed off. "Well, and my...stepfather...I called him father, however. I always have..." She bit her bottom lip, drinking more of the wine. Her mind feeling a bit hazed from the alcohol. So that was probably for the best. If she were to endure having sex with him.
When he touched her hair, she took a deep breath. "I know my stepfather, and her father have been at odds with one another for as long as I can recall. When she came to court, she and I continued that feud. It was silly. The queen thought us to wild for her court, and it is why she arranged this marriage and that of Lady Joanna to your brother..." She trailed off, turning her head to look at him, her cheeks flaming as she fought her self control and found herself rather relaxed by the wine. But she was still nervous and to afraid to confess that she was no maiden.
------
He chuckled. "I was raised to never lay a hand to a woman or child, and that if I were to enter a fight with a man, it was to be a justified fight. And so every fight I have been in has been justified. Whether the man was a villain, or rather a cuckold husband. I admit, I have had a few run ins with those. Especially at Scottish court..." He grinned devilishly then took another sip of his wine. He grabbed a fur lined robe and handed it to her.
"And thank ye for saying ye will try to keep peace. We arenae a people of barbaric nature, despite what is painted about us..." he smiled. "We are just as civil as the English, but we tend to have eh, looser morals...we aren't as uptight as ye people of England I s'pose," he grinned then took a deep breath and sank down in his chair again. "And it doesnae matter to me if ye are twenty. It is not yer fault...lots of lasses with little in dower wed later in life or not at all, some by choice, others by prospects..." He smirked and then took a deep breath. "Do you require anything?"

He found her blushing to be charming in a way since she was only a maiden and so, it was to be expected that she would be shy of her new husband. "A young lady like ye too wild for the English court?" He chuckled as he continued. "Ye dinnae have other playmates as a child, perhaps village children? That must have been lonely." Tomas was slowly in a lazy fashion playing with the slight curls at the end of her hair as he continued with some of his questions. "Then, you are use to the country since you grew up there. What did ye do, horseback riding?" He urged her to talk about herself. "Or did you stay inside sewing and reading questionable books from your father's library?"
He wanted to see if he could get her to blush a little bit more as his hand slipped to touch her cheek as he gently stroked it. "Do ye ken that ye look comely with ye cheeks all scarlet like?" He asked her before leaning himself in to kiss his wife. He strategy was to be gentle and ease into this but to get her comfortable enough with him. After all, he did not want to frighten the poor girl.
He also knew that the first time would be painful for his wife but to get it over and done with was for the best. Pulling away from the gentle kiss, he looked down at her seeing that the wine was taking the edge off of her since she was not as tense as she had been. "Verra pretty... ye ken?" He asked her, both his bad eye and good eye looking down at her.
---
Taking the fur lined robe from her new husband, she listened to what he was saying about a villian or rather a cuckold husband as one of her eyebrows rose. Had she married a complete and utter rogue of a man? It was quite handsome, she could give him that but naturally, she had not a clue of the sort of man that he was. "A cuckold husband, my lord?" She asked him as she sat herself down in a chair across from him. "Are you saying that you are the sort of man who seduces other men's wives then?"
It was a simple question but she was giving him a haughty look if this was the case. "There are people of the English court with loose morals as well, my lord. We are not all high strung as one might think..." However, she was considered high strung compared to some of the ladies of the court. "What sort of man are you, husband?"

She gasped when he kissed her. It was her first kiss. And when he drew away, she looked at him, continuing to blush red as he complimented her and she swallowed and looked down. "Thank you, Tomas," she said simply then took a deep breath, sitting her cup down. "You are being very kind to me...I appreciate it," she said softly then took a deep breath. "I suppose that I am lucky for most women don't get that chance," she said then took a deep breath, grabbing her cup and then taking another sip of wine before sitting it down.
"I admit...I...I have never been kissed before. You kiss nicely," she said, and she meant it in both ways. There was a bit of heat to his kiss but it was mostly squelched by fear of the carnal. "And your burr...it's nearly charming," she said then gave a soft smile and took a deep breath. She looked down and took another breath to calm herself and then looked back at him.
"Tomas..." she began but then he was kissing her and she was kissing him back. The wine had helped but she was still nervous as he laid her upon the bed and started to touch her elsewhere. She closed her eyes, trying to enjoy it but it was difficult because she was so nervous about what he was soon to find out. And when that moment came, she winced a little at the shock on his face. But he did not stop, and she did not stop him as he made use of her. She did feel a bit of heat once again and gave noises of pleasure, but then he expired inside of her and it was to late for her. She had never gained any pleasure before so some did make her feel a little better. She swallowed as she lay beneath him, gasping for breath and then felt him move off of her. Slowly, she grabbed a sheet and wrapped it around her naked body then lifted her legs under her chin.
Tears were in her eyes but she blinked them away. He had tried to please her. Unlike her stepfather. And it had not hurt, but the memories she had kept buried inside of her had surfaced. She fisted the sheets and buried her face in the sheets to keep herself quiet. "I am sorry my lord..." she said, shuddering slightly. "I am not the maid you expected of me."
-----
"Me...I am a good leader, and warrior, admittedly with a flaw for enjoying women with experience or still wed to their not so loving husbands..." he said then sighed. "I have gotten better but some women are liars." He shrugged then looked at her, finishing off his wine. Then he sighed and looked at the fire. "I have a reputation for being a rogue but I am trying to change my ways. A difficult thing, given that it's the way I have been for eleven years. I was an early starter..." he chuckled. "But my younger brother Terrence is worse..."
He smiled. "And we have two sisters. Fourteen and fifteen in age Toiréasa, whom we call Tori, and Tara. Both of them are eager to wed but they are the babies, so my brother and I don't wish to have them wed off just yet," he mused thoughtfully then sighed. "So I hope ye and Lady Alice get along with them," he said and took a look at her again. "Ye dinnae have to look so highborn about me. I have a reputation like most men of Scotland and England..." he said simply.

Tomas was not so much upset at her, one could not expect every young lady to be a maid but, he was upset that she had not told him. He would not have dismissed her or had looked at her any other way. What he wanted to know was who had been the bastard to take away her maidenhead and not offer her marriage in return? He was watching his new wife with a questioning look across his features. "Who was he?" He asked ever so simply as he could see that she was upset and trying to stop herself from crying.
Was this because she had lied to him about not being a virgin, well... that was something that he could get over if she honoured her wedding vows. He had not been a virgin either and as a marriage worked, it ran too ways. "Alice, I wasnae a virgin either. I should have told ye and not assumed here." He sighed not liking the outcome up their love making, because that was what this was suppose to be and yet, she was starting to cry.
"We should of been more honest with each other, come now... donae weep so... it cannae been that bad?" Was that the case, had he been a terrible lover to her? God, he had never had complaints before from his mistresses at court nor the few lovers that he had had since he was about eighteen. Unlike his older brother, Tomas had wanted to wait until marriage until his brother had bought him a woman for their eighteenth birthday.
He looked concerned if not a little perplexed in the matter as he pushed his hair away from his forhead. "Come... perhaps I should had worked in a bit of the foreplay?" He looked uncertain thinking that he could woo her with his tongue since he knew there were some men who did not even think to do this. He had been taught by an experience courtsean in the Scottish court when he had only been nineteen.
"Alice?" Tomas reached out to touch her cheek. "What if we both promised to be truthful to one another... start the marriage off right, no?" His voice was low as he said this.
---
"A reputation!?" She nearly choked on her wine as she thought of how much women he must have slept with over the course of eleven years as she looked down at the ground for a moment as the cup was in her hands half finished. "I have never had younger sisters before..." She had had female friends which she had played with and grown up with. One having been Lady Alice herself when she had only been five year old before her father forbid her to play with the spawn of satan himself. Or something to that effect.
Sighing, she moved her hair over her shoulder before looking up at her new rogue of a husband. Damnable grin that he had across his lips as she said. "Do you plan on changing your ways? Honouring our wedding vows?" She asked with a little frown creasing her forehead.

"It's not your fault my lord...in fact...out of...all of my experience, yours was the most enjoyable," she said and sniffed, hastily wiping at her eyes and then looking at him and taking a deep breath. She swallowed and looked down. "I...didn't lie...you didn't ask..." she said in attempt at defending herself. "You did nothing wrong my lord. I am not stupid. Men are supposed to have lovers before they wed. It's the women that have to be pious and virginal...and I would have been," she mused but looked down. "I have only had one man share my bed, and it started when...when I was thirteen...it...was...the man I called father..."
She closed her eyes. "It is my fault he took to my bed. I tempted him. He told me I did. I've prayed every day after to try and be rid of my whorish ways...and I dress as conservatively as I can...I haven't tempted any other man my lord..." she said, speaking as though what had happened to her as a young teenager had been her fault. She had never recalled tempting him but her stepfather had said it had been the way she had danced, and played and rode her horse astride. Her laughter and the come hither look she had always sent him. She had not recalled doing any of those things, but he had said she had. That she had driven him mad with need. It was why he had hurt her, made her share her bed with him. After two years, she believed him.
-----
He sighed. "I cannot promise anything but to try my lady. I promise to try and stay true as soon as we start a carnal relationship. I saw infidelity rip my father and mother apart and so I am going to try and not follow in his footsteps. I do find you rather attractive and that is a start. I hope we get to know each other better along the way to Tulloch....and from there begin a true marriage..." he said then sighed.
"It's late my lady. Perhaps we should go to bed. I promise not to touch you this night. As I said, I do not want you to be sore come the morning, even if it is going to be mostly carriage rides till we reach Northumbria...Unless ye wish to play a game of chess?" he suggested. "Or perhaps a game of cards. It matters nay to me. It is your decision, my lady wife."

As she confessed to her supposed sins, Tomas was watching her as he thought of his own sisters and if they had been touched by someone with whom they trusted. She had been the same age as his youngest sister, Tara when her step-father had used her in the most unholy of ways. His fists clenched as he listened, feeling for this woman with whom he did not know well and yet, she was trusting him with something quite serious. "Yer... step-father raped you." He said to her simply not using any other word as he shook his head.
"Bastard..." The man had used her and made her believe that it had been her fault. And yet, it had been the fault of a sick old man. He had seen him earlier on during the wedding and he had seen the glare that he had given both himself and his wife. "Stop it, Alice..." He said between clenched teeth knowing that it was already done and that nothing could take away the pain that she must be feeling. There was sympathy for her as he pulled her to his naked chest not knowing really what else to do to comfort an upset woman.
Sighing, Tomas started as he thought to rock her like one would a small child. "That wasnae yer fault... that man... yer..." He could not call him her father because that was not what a father or a step-father did to a daughter. They were to protect and cherish, not hurt and use. "He is a sick old man..." And he wanted to kill the man for what he had done. If he saw him again, Tomas made a promise to do so... and to protect his wife from him despite having not known her for more than a day.
Patting her back, he did not know really what to say as he was holding her in his arms feeling as if he was perhaps being insensitive to the situation and yet, he had not known about it.
---
She knew enough from what the other ladies had said about their first time that it would hurt but would it continue to be painful even after the first time. "That is a start because despite you looking like some brute of a man, with a roguish grin that no doubt other ladies find appealing... I happen to find you quite attractive as well." Joanna, of course found him very attractive but she did not want him to get any ideas that she might like him.
"I am not really tired at the moment, how well do you play chess, husband?" She asked him since it was one of the games that she had a talent for as she sat herself up on her knees, the fur lined robe opening slightly so that the thin chemise could be seen. "Is Tulloch the name of your home?"

She swallowed and cleared her throat then looked at him. "It had to of been," she whispered then took a deep breath and ran her fingers through her hair and slowly straightened, wiping her eyes. "Thank you...again, my lord, for being so understanding," she said to him then swallowed and looked at him before laying her head onto her knees and adjusting the sheets around her. She took a deep breath and sniffed then slowly laid down on the bed. "I am lucky I suppose, to have a man as kind as you are for a husband. Most men would beat their wives if they learned she was not chaste." She glanced at him then wiped her eyes. "I will try hard to please you my lord, but forgive me if I falter," she told him then looked away, curling up in a ball, to try and get some sleep.
-----
He chuckled and sat down across from her. "Chess it is milady, and aye, it is my home," he swore with a grin. "And I hope you love it there," he said simply then set up the board. "Ladies first."
-----
The following afternoon, they were on their way out of London and had just passed the gates of the city. Alice was sitting in the same carriage as her new found sister in law as the men were riding outside the carriage on horseback. she took a deep breath and then ran her fingers over her pearl necklace before looking back at Joanna. She sighed. "Can I offer up a truce my lady?" she asked curiously, not at all the woman she was the night before with her husband. Instead, the self same woman that she had become was in her place. tear free and not nervous.
"After all, these men we married are brothers...and I think it best we try to get along. For all intents and purposes, we are sisters," she said then took a deep breath. "We should, put aside all that our fathers told us of each other. Because despite being English born, we are now the wives of Scotsman, and we can't be tearing their household apart for the sake of something that we did not start ourselves...Perhaps, one day, we might even be friends, but I would settle for a bit of peace. Especially for this journey..."
-----
Tavis looked at his twin as they rode their horses, all of them in fine armor as they rode, just to remain safe. "How did the night go with yer wife?" he asked curiously. "Ye've been awfully quiet these past few hours. And I swear ye could of killed yer wife's da when ye saw him as we were leavin' the courtyard of the palace." He sighed and looked forward, keeping his horse in line as they rode. Two carriages. One with their wives, and the other with two ladies maids to tend to their wives. Not to mention luggage, and their kinsman who had come along as personal guard.
"Yer being more somber than usual, and as yer brother, I'm a wee bit concerned for your state of mind," he said simply then looked forward as they passed trees. He was definitely glad to be out of that smelly damn city. That was for sure.

Perhaps it was the stench of the city that had his mind muddled as he was riding along with his older twin, Tomas was in a state that he did not know what to do. He should have planted his fist into the bastard's fist or stabbed him with a dagger and yet, he did not think that he could. Live and let live as the saying went. Glancing at Tavis, the younger twin sighed. "It went well... I suppose." He shrugged his shoulder thinking that perhaps this was not the best topic of conversation. "We had some wine and talked and I made love to her." He lifted his shoulders since this was to be expected. Of course, his brother had always wanted the details from before but somehow, this felt disrespectful to his new wife.
His eyes fell on the carriages infront of them which held both of their wives as it went up and down the bumpy road. "And yerself?" He asked his brother not really wanting to know the details of his brother's night of passion but thinking it best to ask since he suppose the rogue was happy to tell anyways. As for himself, he was going to have to prove to his wife that what they had done was nothing like that of what she experienced with her step-father.
The very thought of it sickened him to his core, how a man... not a man really could do that to a young lady and tell her that it had been her fault all along. No, there was something wrong with that. All he could do was try to make up for the bastard and what he had done to her. "I will be glad to be home in Tulloch." He mentioned having missed the place of his birth. The hills and the forests... to him, Tulloch was home.
---
"Well, I highly doubt that..." Joanna said with a frown on her lips as she went on to say. "However, I supposed being that we are sisters now... I will have to agree with you that a truce is in order." She mentioned as she looked to the blond with a haughty look before her eyes went back to the window. She was happy enough to be on their way but she was going to miss London and all of its spendors.
"I will not put a dead mouse into your shoe if you promise not to touch any of my jewlery." She said knowing that the little fight that they had had over the years was immature but Joanne was a stubborn young woman.

Tavis sighed. "We talked mostly, played a bit of chess and then I we went to bed. No sex though...I didn't want to deal with a woman complaining about her inner thighs hurting..." he said and shrugged himself. "It took much of my self control however. That woman is a wee bit of a spitfire...she has passion in her. Unbridled," he chuckled and then took a deep breath. "Regardless, I won't be making her a true wife until we reach home," he said simply, running his fingers through his hair and then giving a yawn. "Somwthing is bothering you brother. I haven't seen you look so somber in a good while. What ails you?" he asked curiously then adjusted the reins of his horse in his hand and kept his gaze forward as they rode in a rather good pace through the trees and groves of the countryside, even while the tall buildings of London could be seen at cetai intervals. He sooner they got out of Enfland, the happier he would be.
-----
Alice looked t her. "agreed," she said then settled back in her seat nd sigh as she looked out the window. She was bored out of her mind and wished she had something to do, but her few books were packed away and there was little to do except look out the window of the carriage. She sighed and turned her face slowly back to Joanna. "Do you have a liking of your husband?" she asked. A liking was all she could manage. Well that and respect. Her own husband was a good man, though she feared he had a temper. His eyes had been like fire when he had learned of her stepfather's personal reign of terror upon her. Something she still considered her fault despite his reassurance. After all, for two years, he had used her body and blamed her for his crazed lust. How was she to see it any differently.
