There was pain in the world that had not been there before. The dryad could feel it through the soles of her bare feet as she passed over the spongy moss of the forest floor. All seemed well but Aoife knew it was not. She could feel an itch, a pain in the trees that had not been there before and she knew the rumors she had heard must be true. The trees whispered of corruption within their ranks and Aoife placed a hand over her heart in sorrow at the thought as she listened to the soft, murmuring voices of the life around her. Aoife had long since been shunned from her people for the wandering dedication to healing and keeping the natural balance. Her people were far to immature and ignorant; like fairies, to make any sense of her serious concern. They laughed and told her how the forests and nature always fixed itself. But Aoife was not so sure.
She paused and crouched down, running her fingers along the sprouts of weeds and young flowers, trying to learn from them. But growth was still young and had little to say, where the trees were to old and confused with to much to say. Frustrated she rose to her feet. "Please... speak to me. I can feel your pain but I cannot find it. Where is your corruption so I may heal it?" Aoife begged out-loud as if that would foster better results but the trees refused. She was a stranger to this place and they had not yet come to trust her loving touch. They had been betrayed already and were now, not so quick to touch.
Seeing no answers here, Aoife kept moving. She was still young in her training as a druid, still learning with every step. The forest could sense her youth and the dryad knew her best chances were to keep moving. Perhaps she might find someone or something which knew more of the harm being done to this place. Aoife only hoped it was an isolated issue. In the pit of her heart she feared it was something more wide spread, more man made. Still she enjoyed the warmth of the sun on her lavender skin and the feeling of the spring breeze through her leaf green hair, carrying the thick bunches a little behind her. Her meager cloths danced about her and even in such disconcerting circumstances she could feel the uplifting mirth of her people. Aoife hummed softly to herself, soft green moths dancing around her head in response to her natural communion with nature as she twirled. Perhaps she just needed to stop looking so hard. She was sure she would find what she was looking for.
