The young pale woman smiled when she saw her younger sister as she reached out wanting to draw her into an embrace. "Arienne..." She said in a soft voice as she put her book on the side table. She was feeling much better today but, that was because of the weather, days in which the sun was shining always seemed to be the ones that she felt in a more positive mood. Well, those days and when the handsome young doctor, M. Blackwell visited. He was an Englishman who was so kind to her and would tell her stories sometimes of his travels. Something that she knew that she would never be able to do because of her sickly state.
"I missed you so... how lucky you are to visit Aunt Marie in Paris." She whispered as she closed her eyes drawing her sister close. "You must tell me about it, French court and the gowns... I do only see them in picture books." Despite being sickly, the young woman had a sunny disposition as she wanted to know all of her younger sister's time in the French court. "Have you met the King yet?" She asked taking her hands. "Oh, you have so much to tell me... our brothers do not let me out of this room... well, sometimes to sit outside and get fresh air since my doctor advised it. He is a kind man, even if he is an Englishman."
Blue eyes that mirrored her sisters save for a bit of green, Margie was a delicate looking flower. "I do feel so awful that you left court to come see me. I did miss you but, you should be able to go and have fun there without having to worry for me." She said looking quite serious as she sighed. "Silly brothers, sending letters to worry you..." There was a child like manner to her since she did not get many visitors, it was why when she did that she was so grateful, spending most of her time sew gifts and such for those she considered her friends.
---
Smelling the salt in the air, Valerie had never been so lucky to see the ocean like this before as she saw a few of the gulls flying in the air. Of course, she had seen the ocean from trips to the Caribbean with her family but this was a different experience. And it did not help that according to her story, she had landed in Brest on a ship from New France. If that had been the case then it would have been a terrible journey across the ocean to Quebec.
Lucien looked to the two brothers gathered as he nodded. "Yes, Lucien E'Toile, I was hired by the King to care for your sister during her time in court." He said simply not knowing had three brothers could or would allow their sister to become the King's mistress as he glanced over them not saying a word of the matter. It seemed that Jerome had been friends with them for years, where Lucien was almost a stranger in his household.
"This is Madame LaRocque, your sister's lady's maid and a friend to Jerome." He said as she looked up almost startled from looking around in fascination at the grand house as she made a quick curtsy. "Ah, pleasure to meet you." Val said remembering that she had to remind herself of all these manners.
Apart of her mind wandered on the kiss from M. Jerome, something that she had found funny because she had thought of it only two moments before he had done so. However, apart of her thought that he was playing a game with her because of his teasing nature.

Arienne smiled at her then kissed her forehead. "They had every right to send word of your health..." she told her sister and sighed. "And court is truly beautiful. Everyone eats and they have this silly notion of leaving some on your plate...and the gowns. They are so positively low cut. This one woman, Madame Devereaux wore a gown so positively low cut that her bosom nearly popped out...and I have met the King...He is a good man. And his queen is very nice as well. But I missed home...." she said then sighed.
She looked at Margie and smiled. "It's good that you get on so well with your doctor. Even if he is English," she teased then sighed. She looked and saw some blood soaked handkerchiefs. Consumption. She sighed and looked back to Margie. "There is not much else to say about Court. It's far different then life here. I much prefer it here, but Aunt Marie wishes me to stay with her. I get to stay here for a month or so..." she said then laughed. "I'm your good luck charm remember? You need me here to get better...." she said, giving her hand a squeeze.
-----
Jacques smiled. "A pleasure...Madame...Well we might as well get you settled in. You can take the room next to Arienne's. Armande's getting dinner organized so you all can freshen up. Henri's out riding with the Doctor Blackwell so he'll be back shortly..."
Jerome nodded. "I'll show her up..." he said, leading Val up to the room next to Arienne's. "Here you are. Dinner will be soon. It is pretty late." Servants were bringing trunks up. He sighed and stroked her cheek. "You'll be eating with me tonight. Not as a lady's maid, if that's what you want," he said.
-----
Henri glanced at his side to the doctor riding alongside him. "Thank you for coming to France to look after my sister," he said to the man as they rode. Knowing that his sister was close to death's door, it was nice she was being so well looked after. Even if it was by an Englishman. He knew his sister felt a sort of crush on the man and he was just glad that she would be leaving this world happy. Not much could be said for the youngest of his sisters Arienne. Lord knew he had never met someone so self sacraficing. He and his brother had complained often about their sister's illnesses, but never Ari.

Margie knew that she was dying despite her positive outlook of what her life was, touching her sister's cheek... the young lady smiled. "Oh Ari, knowing that you are here makes me feel a thousand times better." She said quietly but she did not understand why her sister did not seem happy about going to French court when it was a positively exciting experience. It had been a dream of hers to fall in love with someone who would love her back... one that would take her into his arms and kiss her telling her that she was the only one for him. However, she knew that she would never be able to grow old with this bout of sickness. Naturally, she had heard her brothers talks as well as the servants... as much as she was living in her own foolish world to escape. She was far from foolish.
"How lucky I am that you will stay a month. Ah, perhaps we will be able to go out to the seaside. If one carries me there then I might sit in the sand." She so hoped that her brothers would allow her that since she knew that Arienne did not like sitting inside. "I always feel refreshed when I am outside. Doctor Blackwell calls it, Air Baths." She explained as she went on. "He thinks that some sunlight and fresh air is good for the soul. Ah, and he does not approve of blood letting... you know how much I dislike when they must do that."
Margie lifted herself up some as she hoped that she could talk to her sister for a bit longer. "Oh, you must be awfully hungry. I told brother to make your favourites when we had word of your arrival. We even have sugar candies... I am only to have some of them. The Doctor allows me to have chocolate sometimes." Something that was her favourite of treats.
---
Only having the small truck since all she had were her belongings that had traveled with her through the time portal or whatever it was, Valerie had kept everything as she looked up at Jerome as he was stroking her cheek. "I did not know that I was allowed to do that since there is so many rules in French society." She said quietly as she smiled. "I think I will like that, it has been sometime since I was allowed to dine with those of the gentry." She teased him as she touched his hand with her own feeling silly that she was starting to like the handsome musketeer.
"Will I be expected to not eat a thing on my plate?" Valerie laughed knowing that was how it was in the French court. If a woman had an appetite for food then she must have had one for sex as well. Strange concept but some of those cream rolls were to die for.
---
It had been over a year since he had washed up on the banks of Normandy in a completely different time period, Dr. Blackwell was twenty eight years old and had been a medical officer on board of the HMS Queen Charlotte when it had been sunk by a German U-Boat off the Coast of France. That had been 1943 as he had remembered falling into the waves as the ship had moved and shook from the torpedo. And before he knew it, he had washed up in France except that it had been 1669.
There was no explaining it but he had taken his skills as a doctor and used them to his advantage. Under his care now was a sickly young woman with a weak immune system and a case of TB. He had had a small medical kit with him and he had injected her with one dose of penicillin hoping that it would help if she rested and got sun light and fresh air. It seemed that they were keeping her in the manor... of course, he had pills that he gave the poor young woman telling her they would help.
"It is not a problem, sir... your sister is a charming young woman. I do hope that she can recover from this illness." However, even he was unsure but sometimes a positive outlook and a will to live could help with a patient's situation. What he did not know was the young woman's crush on him... he simply told her of tales, some true and some that he had heard.

Ari smiled at her. "I'll be late to dinner...It is so good to see you sis," she said then gave her a hug, feeling her sister coughing and she sat up, watching her cough into a white rag. When she drew her hand away, Arienne could see the tiny red dots of blood on the whiteness and sighed. She took a deep breath and ran her fingers through her hair. "I love you...and I'll stay longer if you want me too," she swore.
-----
Jerome chuckled. "The rules of propriety aren't as strict. Trust me...eat as much as you want,"he said then stroked her cheek. "I'll see you at dinner." He kissed her then drew back.
------
"I hope you can get her well again," Henri said. "But...given her past history, we'll rely on her to be optimistic," he said and sighed then cleared his throat.
------
Dinner was served an hour later. With Valerie's help, she had gotten into a fresher gown and had come down to eat dinner with her brothers, Jerome, and Lucien, Val at her side. She took a seat next to Lucien, placing her napkin in her lap. They were into their second course when the conversation she had been dreading started.
"How has the king been treating you?" Jacques asked of her as he ate some of his beef. Arienne looked up from her plate, taking a sip of her wine.
"He's been treating me, well ," she said then looked down at her plate. Thank god the doctor wasn't here to hear this. He was upstairs with her sister. She took another bite of her food, wiping her mouth.
"Are you pregnant?" he asked.
"Jacques! Can we please not talk about this," she begged.
Jacques shook his head. "I don't get it....how in God's name you could let father run roughshod over you until you gave in..." he muttered. "The king would of never accepted Marguerite as his mistress..."
Arienne looked up, sitting her fork down. "I wasn't chancing it," she said. "So what if I am the king's whore..." she muttered.
"Arienne...you were never cut out for that...if you had told us before you had left...before father told us the reason you agreed..." Jacques said angrily. He had always been hot blooded.
"Yes well I didn't want you killing him over something trivial," she said, suddenly feeling lost of her appetite. She took another sip of her wine.
"Trivial?" Henri jumped in. "You gave up your virginity to the King just to ensure your sister didn't become a whore...you ended up becoming one...because of father. That's hardly trivial. He pimped out his own child for personal gain. He got a good bit of money from his Majesty once you started laying on your back for him."
Arienne looked at him, tears in her eyes. "I did it to protect Margie and you know that," she whispered. "She wouldn't of made it to court let alone the king's bed...and father said he was going to beat her...I couldn't..." she looked away, glancing at Lucien. "And I'm not pregnant. I had my menses on the way here," she said then pushed her chair back. "If you'll excuse me," she said standing. "I'm not hungry any longer." She turned and walked out of the room quickly, fleeing outside.
Jacques sighed. "Sorry bastard. We should kill him," he muttered.
------
Arienne was standing in the back garden. A few tears fell down her cheek and she wiped them away. She took a deep breath. Not wanting to feel shame but she couldn't help it, even though she had tried to help her sister. And look what that had done. Just prolonged the inevitable because she was going to die anyway from her health. But she had done what she could. ANd that was all there was to it.
-----
Margie smiled softly. "Do you treat all your patients so effectively?" she asked teasingly, eating some tomato soup with some roasted chicken. "I never knew of a doctor, to sit with his patients and eat with them. Armande must be paying you well," she teased laughingly then ran her fingers through her loose hair, eating some more soup.
"Thank you, Dr. Blackwell, it is nice being in your company..." she said gratefully as she ate some more of her soup.

There was a moment when everyone in the dining room were sitting in complete silence after Arienne had left the room, Valerie was looking down at her plate feeling completely awkward as she wondered if she should go and check on her mistress. As she was about to rise, that was when her personal guard stood up slowly saying his excuse before leaving the room.
It had been almost as if her brothers had jumped in to discuss this with her because they were upset. Valerie could see why since their father had basically pimped his daughter but there was nothing that could be done and her sister was quite sickly. Slowly cutting in a piece of beef, she thought that it was best not to say a word as she glanced at Jerome and the conversation of New France came up. Some people were curious but she disliked lying and spinning the tales about herself like she had to do whenever the topic of her past came up.
---
Walking out into the back garden, he had had to ask one of the servant's where she had been seen since she had gone off in a bit of a rush. Of course, he had not known that her father has threatened to send her sister as the King's mistress in her stead if she had not done so. A noble cause since he would not have done anything for the sake of his brother. "Milady..." He said gently as he stood behind her as the wind of the twilight blew from the coast.
"Are you alright?" He asked slowly going towards her, a look of concern on his features as he touched her shoulder. "Your brothers seem to care a great deal for you as you care for your older sister." Lucien said thinking that he was being helpful. "It is noble to protect your sister from the likes of your father." Clearing his throat, he had the serious look that he tended to have. He supposed that it had surprised him since he thought that she told him everything. Then, she could think that he would not understand.
If it had been Josephine... he would have done anything to make it so she was not the King's whore. However, her brothers had not protected her enough nor her sister from their own father.
---
"You are unable to eat with the rest of your family. To eat alone can be considered boring." He said to the young woman in his gentle voice as he was looking at his own tomato based soup. The chef in this household was quite amazing as he looked up at her. "You are taking the small tablets that I instructed you to take?" He asked her hoping that she believed in him since he could save her life. Atleast, he hoped that he could since she deserved a long life.
"I also want you to eat fruits and vegetables. I know they feed you meat but I do not think your stomach can handle too many rich foods." He looked quite serious having come to care for the young woman. Then, a doctor never wanted a patient to pass on him.

Looking at him, she nearly dissolved into tears but stopped herself, covering her face for a moment. "It does not matter now, does it?" she asked mostly to herself. "I am exactly what all those women at court call me. The king's whore..." she swallowed hard, wiping her eyes as the tears fell of their own accord. "I am sleeping with a man I don't love and I am, in love, with another who I can't have because to give in to my own selfish desires would be treason...for him, and for me." she sniffed and ran her fingers throguh her hair. "Do you know how dreadful that is, knowing that I can't be selfish. I have never wanted anything more than this man, and I cannot have him....my one time of wishing to be selfish. And I can't because it will get us both hung or beheaded." she sighed and sank down on a stone bench.
Arienne took a deep breath. "The king is already looking for a suitable husband for me. A rich duke's son or a man of well means. Your brother, is at the tip of the list. He is respectable, in close contact with his majesty and heir to a fortune of such immense wealth that any woman would be lucky to be considered as his wife. And...god's mercy but I would rather be poor than marry him. I would rather be poor and happily we'd to the one man I want rather than him. Because I do not love him or the king, but I..." she trailed off and took a shuddered breath. "I love you Lucien...god help me but I do...and I can't have you..."
-----
She smiled softly. "Ah but you are very kind to me Dr. Blackwell. I hope you tell cook that. She insists I need meat. And then there is the fact that there is not much to choose from in the way of fruits until august. Only strawberries and tomatoes and beets. God knows I hate the stuff.." she said wrinkling up her nose before a coughing fit came. She covered her mouth, coughing into a rag then wiping her mouth after it ended. She drew back and sighed, taking several deep breaths before looking t him and smiling gently.
"Why are you not married Doctor. As handsome a man as you. I am sure ladies and maids a like fawn over you, wishing they could marry you," she teased him, giving a soft laugh and looking at him with a gentle amusement to her eyes.

Eyebrows rose when he had heard her crying about loving a man who she could not love because it would be treason. He had made sure that she was not accosted by any of the notiable men who would easily look at Milady and eat her for breakfast. Watching as she sat on the stone bench, Lucien sat beside her not really knowing what to do since he was the object of her affections. He should have turned and walked away.
Far away from her, she would have been with her brothers... he could allow her to stay here with the other guards and ask for a transfer to another post. And yet, he was sitting there... lifting up her elegant hand and brushing his lips on her knuckles. "Milady..." He said gently looking into her pretty eyes as he lifted her chin. "I only want the best for you... I have come to care for you as well." He said quietly being that they were alone for the first time, completely alone in the garden.
Something that he would not have done, Lucien became a traitor and leaned in to kiss her. Everything was screaming at him to stop and say no to this act and yet, he could not help himself but to indulge in the taste of her lips. Opening his eyes, Lucien smiled. "I am afraid that I can not have you either... many nights when you were to go to his majesty's bed and I was jealous of my own King." And yet, she was doing this for her sister. "You are not a whore..." He said to her pulling away as he looked to the moon peaking through the clouds.
"However, we can not let this go further... Milady." He said simply.
---
Robert had been married and had even had his first child in the north of England where it was safe from the bombing of London. His son was only three years old and had never eaten a banana because of all the rations. He did not like to think of Susan and his son Andrew because it sadden him. He did wear a locket under his shirt with their picture in it but it was something that he kept away from anyone or anything in this world of the past. "I suppose that ladies and the maids would fawn over me." He said gently to the charming young lady as he watched with soft brown eyes. "However, I suppose that I have yet to meet the right woman yet..." He smiled at her knowing that she was the daughter of a Duke and would most likely be given to another man of the same position.
Perhaps, she would be able to have children... alas, she might not but if she could have a full life then it made him glad to be a doctor. "You do not like strawberries... ah perhaps if cook dipped them in chocolate then you would like them a bit more." Robert teased her as he cut into the chicken.

She closed her eyes, gasping as he kissed her and she whimpered, drawing him close, only for him to pull away from her. She swallowed hard, nodding to what he said. "I know," she whispered, glancing at him. Impulsively, she stroked his jaw then turned her face to meet his eyes. Then she ran her fingers over his jaw, leaning into him and kissing him deeply, her arms wrapping around his neck. At least kissing him was something she could afford in private because it did not put her at risk of getting pregnant.
-----
Jerome sighed as they were excused from dinner. The brothers fighting and arguing. He was just glad to be out of the room. With Val at his side, he walked up to her room walking inside with her. "Valerie, I must speak with you," he said softly. He took a deep breath, knowing how much trouble he was going to be in when he returned to court and told his captain that he could no longer spy on this woman. He doubted that she was some British spy come to get secrets about the king from his mistress. Of course, she was being something but it was not being a spy. His gut told him so.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped closer, stroking her cheek. "I want to know, if we can become lovers," he said simply as he ran his fingers over her pinned hair. "I have wanted you, probably from the moment I saw you in those strange clothes and the month since, its become painfully clear to me that I want you...." he said. Not that he would admit it but he wanted her so bad he was half wanting to ask for her hand in marriage. But he had little offer so the most he could pray foe would be a few months of bliss sharing her bed.
-----
"You tease me," she said then smiled. "It's not the strawberries. I like them enough but not all the time and I cannot stand the taste of beets..." she shuddered at the very idea. Laying back relaxed, she watched him. "And they do fawn over you. The maids sometimes think I am asleep while I am rating and talk all about the young English doctor whom they admire so keenly," she laughed then coughed a little more. Admittedly, she did not feel as congested as she had in the past week. So hopefully that was a good sign.
"Do you suppose I will be able to go out tomorrow, to the seaside...I do like watching the sea and the smell of the water. It's not the same having the breeze strong against me and the water right before me compared to the light breeze that somehow manages to get into my bedchamber.

"You seem to want a number of things..." Valerie could not help herself by saying as she had to be truth with herself. She was a hot blooded woman and she had not had a healthy dose of sex in sometime, there were times when she pretended to be shy but that was only because men in this time period almost expected it. Tilting her head up at him as she looked up at him, she thought him very handsome but to be asked in a formal way if they could be lovers.
She found this amusing as she spoke in a soft voice. "Are you always this formal when you ask a woman to be your lover, Monsieur?" There was a smirk on her face as a part of her was thinking that she was going to get some tonight. She wondered if they had condoms in this time since she did not have a clue about sexual history. For all she knew, it was hell and damnation to be having such an arrangement.
"Hell with it..." She whispered more to herself as she moved into him and pulled his head forward so that she could kiss him. It was a bold move for a woman of the 21st century, most likely unthinkable for a woman on this century as her brown eyes closed and she knew that she was going to have to ask about contraceptive since pregnancy was not the last thing that she was wanting to return to her own time with. An STD from this time period was also something that she did not wish to have either since she knew enough that syphilis was common.
---
"Ah... well, perhaps we can cover those in chocolate as well." Robert said as he continued to eat with the charming young woman. "You should eat a bit of beetroot as well as the tomatoes since they will give you some strength. Eating meat is also good but in fair portions." He explained to her hoping that she would take his advice well into her advanced ages since he could tell that there was a complete lack of dental care in this time. There were early effects from some of the people of the village who did not trust him with his strange concept of vegetables and fruits being good for you.
"Ah, I do suppose that the maids would talk... but I did not know it was about how handsome I was. And here I thought it was because I was a quack doctor." He grinned at her thinking of the request to go by the seaside. "I do not see why not, Mlle." The young doctor said in his accented French, something he had learnt in boarding school as a boy and had come in use for him over the last year of living in France in another time period.
"You seem to be growing stronger with every day and fresh air, a little bit of exercise and some daylight will do some good. Of course, it is up to your brothers. I can only give them the recommendation." He said gently as he moved his hand to take her wrist and check her pulse as he slowly counted in his head. He was happy to see that she was doing better.
---
He had said that they could not let this go further when innocent kissing. Well, it had not been innocent in the least as he looked down at the sleeping form in his bed. There would be hell to pay if her brothers found out about this dangerous liasion that they were entangled in. As well as, it could be his head because she was the mistress of the King himself. Never the less, it had been his own decision since he had not drank nor did he push her away from him. Apart of him was glad for it as he thought perhaps he could take her as his wife, of course he was not as well off as his older brother but he did work for his majesty in the musketeers along with a decent income.
He had been saving his wages for years and taking work when nobles were needing gentlemen guards rather then rough and tumble sorts. Stroking her honey coloured hair, he could tell that the king had taught her well and yet, it upset him that she had given her virginity for the sake of her older sister. She was a selfless little thing who had been selfish once in her life and that had been this night.
Frowning, Lucien did not want her to wake up just yet since she did not have to leave, however she would have to before her servants woke up and she was seen. Something that he did not want since he wanted to protect his scrotum from the wrath of three older brothers. "Arienne..." He said gently as his hand moved to her shoulder and slowly down her back before resting on the curve of her spine above her derrière. He could not help himself but smile as she roused from her slumber.
Her tonsled hair, her lips full and pouting as she was looking up at him with those blue eyes. There was a look on confusion as he could not help feeling proud but there was a feeling, a hope that he had been better then his King. Of course, he would not say as Lucien moved her so that he could kiss her gently. "It is time to wake up, Milady."

It had been, absolutely incredible.unlike anything she had experienced in the king's bed. She had been consumed by fire. They had only been kissing and she gad been so into the heat of him that when awareness had hit her, she had already been half naked and in his chambers. Now she was completely naked and well loved and waking up in her lover's arms. She kissed him back then sighed and laid back in the bed and nodded. "I suppose I have to sneack back to my chambers," she said then sighed. Hating that they had to be so secretive.but she knew last night was an act of treason. That if they continued this love affair, it would surely put them in death's way. Execution. But her heart demanded she take what little she could. Slowly, she kissed him. "Fetch me for breakfast," she murmured then smiled brightly before getting up and then pulled on her chemise then tugged the laces at the bodice before sliding from the bed and kissing him again. "Then we can spend the day together, my love Lucien," she whispered then drew away, gathering her clothes. Reaching the door, she glanced back at him and smiled before leaving the room.
Padding quickly, she made it own the hall to her room. Once inside, she sighed and put her clothes by the door then went to the bed and laid down. If she were lucky, she and Lucien would be able to marry when she returned to court. It was her greatest wish. Because with him, she could be so happy.
-----
Waking up, Jerome could not help but feel very pleased with himself and very satisfied with the woman beside him. He adjusted himself and then looked at her as she slept beside him. Her hair a mess, her body still flushed from multiple orgasms and sexual escapades the night before. He hhad treated her like he would have a goddess and had a satisfied woman to show for it. That made him very glad. There was that awkward moment before he had made love to her where she had asked about contraceptives. Of course he had a few condoms and had, for her sake put one on each time before they had made love. He did not have any disease but he wanted to ensure her comfort so he had worn it. He smiled at her sleeping figure and then leaned down kissing her slowly, his hand trailing over her shoulder and across her breastbone just above the curve of her fine breasts. He smiled. "Good morning Valerie," he murmured, kissing her as a means to coax her awake.
He drew back and smiled. "Time to wake up. You have to play lady's maid before you can return to your lover," he teased her.
